Beginner’s Aikido Program

New beginners series will start in early 2025. Stay tuned for exact dates. Start the new year off by taking care of your physical and mental health, having fun, and making new friends :).

  • Tuesday evenings 6:00–7:00 pm, Saturday mornings 10:30-11:30 am
  • $50 per month, no commitment required

These foundational aikido classes explore the elements of a successful aikido practice: principle footwork, pins, throws and strikes as well as basic ukemi, the practice of receiving techniques and taking falls.

At our dojo we take a methodical yet personal approach to making sure all of our new students get solid skills in the fundamentals before being “thrown in” to our general, faster paced classes. We cover 8 techniques during our 8 week series. Some students are ready to jump into our general classes as soon as they finish the beginners series and others choose to stay in the basics classes for another month or 2 or 3 before becoming full dojo members. We work with each student at their own pace and body’s abilities.

No art or discipline can go on without constantly bringing in new students, and our entire dojo knows this and highly values our beginners program. Helping new students learn the basics is also essential for more experienced practitioners to deepen their understanding and skill in the art. For these reasons we always have many of our senior students helping out in our beginner classes, which means new students often get one-on-one instruction and pick up skills that much more quickly!

Please feel free to contact us with any questions and to reserve your place in our next series!
