Visitors

Visitors of any level and from any style are welcome at our dojo. To join a general class you should have comfortable front and back ukemi and be able to move at a faster pace. Our daily mat fee is $15. You can register when you arrive or sign up online in advance here. Reach out to us with any questions! dojo@denveraikikai.com or text 720-828-3949.

We recommend that you arrive about 15 minutes before the class begins to get checked in, changed and oriented. We look forward to meeting you!

Beginner/Basics Classes

These foundational classes explore the elements of a successful aikido practice: principle footwork, pins and strikes as well as basic ukemi, the practice of receiving techniques and taking falls. Click here for more information about our beginner’s program which runs as a structured 8 week series 3 times a year. New students should start with this program.

Between formal beginners series’, these become “basics” classes along with Thursday 6-7, where we keep things at a bit slower pace and focus on the needs of the more junior students in the class.

All levels are welcome in basics classes. Senior students are expected to train with more junior students and move at their speed.

Beyond Beginning Classes

These classes are designed to help students move from the basics to more dynamic and varied training. Emphasis is on doing basics techniques from a variety of attacks, working on speed and timing while staying precise, and ukemi for more advanced training.

These classes are open to full dojo members or visitors with solid basic technique and ukemi skills.

General Class

These classes move at a faster pace and sometimes include more advanced technique and ukemi. They are open to full dojo members or visitors who have completed the beginner’s program or equivalent AND can smoothly take ukemi from most techniques. Permission is required from dojo leadership before joining these classes.

On Thursdays and Saturdays our general classes include both open hand and weapons practice, which could be paired or solo kata or take-aways.
